As the crescent moon is sighted, the arrival of a month unlike any other is marked — the holy month we always yearn for. It’s the blessings and mercy that Allah (SWT) pours upon us that make it unique.

“Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority. So whoever is present this month, let them fast.” (2:185)

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the month of fasting, one of the five pillars of Islam. It is the month in which the Almighty has chosen to reveal the Holy Quran, and it holds immense significance for Muslims. Ramadan is not simply about physical restraint; it’s a time for inward reflection, a chance to reconnect with the Creator and rediscover the soul.

The essence of Ramadan

Ramadan aims to cultivate taqwa (consciousness of Allah), which means developing a sense of awareness of Allah’s presence that guides us to live by the ethics and principles of our faith at all times, avoiding actions that displease Him. Ramadan’s spiritual atmosphere helps us strengthen our faith, compassion, and moral character, becoming better versions of ourselves. Experiencing hunger and physical hardships serve as a tool for self-purification and a reminder of those less fortunate.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He who observes fasting during the month of Ramadan with Faith while seeking its reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

This Hadith teaches us that sincere worship and the pursuit of good deeds in Ramadan lead to Allah’s forgiveness for our past mistakes, Alhamdulillah, A month full of Allah’s mercy and blessings! It motivates us to make the most of this blessed time by fasting, praying, reciting the Quran, and engaging in acts such as charity and family and community gatherings, enabling us to reap the rewards in this life and the hereafter.

The Holiest Night: Night of Qadr

Known as the “Night of Power,” it is the holiest night of the year. It’s the night when Angel Jibril (Gabriel) revealed the Quran’s first verses to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It’s described as a night that is better than a thousand months, when gates of mercy are opened, sins are forgiven, and prayers are answered. Marked by peace and tranquillity, the Night of Qadr is a time for sincere worship, heartfelt duas, and the seeking of forgiveness.

May this Ramadan be filled with blessings and forgiveness, and may we all experience the profound peace and rewards of the Night of Qadr.
